Integration of an online homework platform and interactive e-textbook into a virtual learning environment of a health economics course

M. Femi Ayadi

Chapter 10 in Handbook on Teaching Health Economics, 2021, pp 135-145 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter discusses the redesign of an asynchronous online health economics course to integrate an interactive e-textbook and online homework platform into a learning management system (LMS). The objectives of designing the course in this way are to make the online learning environment more engaging while offering a seamless interaction between both platforms. In particular, the goal was to eliminate the student’s need to have to log on and engage with two different platforms each week. The health economics textbook market has traditionally not been large enough to produce health economics e-textbooks. With the recent global COVID-19 pandemic, demand for both online education and health economics knowledge has increased. There is a need for health economics textbook authors to work with publishers to create interactive e-textbooks supplemented with adaptive online homework platforms to provide choices in the health economics textbook market.
