Strategic dimension in innovation orientation
.
Chapter 3 in Innovation Orientation in Business Services, 2021, pp 37-54 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In the implementation of innovation orientation in business service firms, a strategic approach is fundamental. It requires the preconditions that determine the company’s readiness to carry out strategic orientation (SO) focused on innovation. In this chapter, the authors discuss the current typologies of a company’s SO focusing mainly on the comparative approach. This was the starting point for proposing the three characteristics of the strategic dimension in innovation orientation. Futurity relates to foresight, which indicates an understanding of unexpected and discontinuous market changes. Innovative business service companies have to act aggressively on the market and be ready to accept risks that arise due to reactions from competitors. Aggressive and risky behaviour by innovative companies should be accompanied by proactive and analytical attitudes. Collecting and applying advanced knowledge by these companies should lead to higher performance thanks to innovation leadership.
