The issues approach to teaching Principles of Microeconomics
Wendy A. Stock
Chapter 5 in Teaching Principles of Microeconomics, 2023, pp 59-73 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Using an issues-oriented approach to teaching principles of microeconomics can increase student interest and help students see the applicability of economics to addressing current social issues. It can help instructors implement teaching methods that researchers in cognitive science have found increase learning, and can enhance the impact of the principles course for "one-and-done" students while at the same time not shortchanging continuing economics students. This chapter describes the issues approach and discusses how to implement the approach in principles courses.
