The role of industry in higher education transformation

Chapter 13 in Research Handbook on the Transformation of Higher Education, 2023, pp 192-206 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
We look at the role of industry in the transformation of higher education across three main missions of a modern university - teaching, research and third mission - by discussing main drivers and selected outcomes. In our view, changes in the higher education landscape facilitated or influenced by industry have taken place on the institutional as well as the system levels. In order to understand the relationship between universities and industry in a complex innovation ecosystem, university–industry interaction is positioned in a multi-level and multi-actor policy-making process as demonstrated in a case of the Czech Republic within the European Union framework.
