Initial teacher education during COVID-19: adopting, adapting and inventing

Abstract: This chapter will discuss the immediate changes that took place within teacher education in a large HEI in the UK in the light of COVID-19, the ongoing adaptations that have been made, some of the key decisions that have been taken, the impacts on staff and students, and some of the lasting effects that the implemented changes have had and are predicted to have in the near-term. We will also discuss some of the most important issues that staff have shared, and how we have tried to keep to our enshrined pedagogic values throughout turbulent times. Whilst we use our institution as a narrow exemplar, we draw on the thoughts and experiences of the sector and outline some ideas for what we see as vital in the near future.
