The value of a good story: involving inventors and entrepreneurs in higher education as a tool to support teaching and learning
Mandy Haberman
Chapter 17 in Teaching Intellectual Property Law, 2023, pp 266-273 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Personal stories are a valuable resource for teaching students of all ages about the role of IP . British inventor/entrepreneur, Mandy Haberman describes the journey of her business, the lessons she learnt about IP and explains how her story has been used to raise awareness, inspire and educate. Patent rights were crucial to the commercial success of her invention, the Anywayup cup, which was the subject of a patent enforcement battle that set legal precedent. A passionate advocate for IP education, Mandy describes why she thinks the approach to IP education within HEIs needs to change and how case studies/personal stories can help to achieve that change.
