Chapter 1 in Handbook of Higher Education and Disability, 2023, pp 1-6 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Increasing understanding of the unique talents of individuals with disabilities is enhancing access efforts to higher education and employment in nations around the world. Higher education is an important step for many types of employment, and ensuring students with disabilities have access to both physical and instructional environments is critical. We are honored and pleased to offer this research Handbook of Higher Education and Disability that presents an overview of an array of important topics and practices from numerous nations across the world. It is our hope this Handbook will provide a foundation for reflection on current practices and research related to higher education and disability and lead to cross-national dialog and collaboration by practitioners and researchers. This introduction discusses the rationale for the Handbook, the process by which chapters and authors were selected, and a overview of the covered topical areas.
