Role of project management maturity in project performance

Vittal Anantatmula

Chapter 12 in Research Handbook on Project Performance, 2023, pp 176-186 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: In spite of great research efforts on projects by academic research and professional associations, studies show that the number of successful projects has not changed significantly. The aim of this research effort is to study the relations among project success and project performance factors, and organizational project management maturity. The research results suggest that communication and top management support are important for improving project performance and project success. Further, the presence of project management maturity – consisting of portfolio management and formalized project management processes - improves project success and project performance.
