An alternative to traditional project management: using lean OKRs as a model for value creation for software product companies
Bart den Haak
Chapter 3 in Research Handbook on Project Performance, 2023, pp 23-38 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In this chapter, I present a model for working that is better suited to modern software companies than the traditional project management approach. I have been a SaaS consultant for the past decade and specialize in the implementation of the OKR (Objective and Key Results) framework which sets a company on their own unique path for achieving their most ambitious goals. In 2021 I published my book: Moving the Needle with Lean OKRs (Haak 2021) that integrates Lean Thinking with the ambitious goal setting of OKRs for hyperfocus on one goal, fostering behavioral changes, encouraging experimentation, devotion to continuous, long-term learning, eliminating inefficiencies and is outcome (rather than output) driven.
