The economic model of man

Chapter 37 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Public Choice, 2025, pp 259-263 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The economic model of man assumes that we all act in our own well-understood interest. We researchers rarely apply this model to ourselves. The common interest of researchers is to publish to further their careers. This predicts that researchers exaggerate their results. Also, it is well known that our tools are flexible. Considerable evidence in support of this prediction has been found in the many meta-studies that have appeared during the last decade.
