Chapter 15 in Handbook of Research on Strategic Leadership in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, 2024, pp 348-364 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Digital globalization is a rapidly growing field of research, combining the research interests of the fields of strategic management, international business, and digital technology. The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of how digital globalization - that is, the rise of virtual or digitalized flows across international borders - affects strategic leadership in multinational corporations and suggest areas for future research. The authors start by elaborating the ways in which digital globalization brings to the fore some key strategic decisions, leadership attributes and behaviors of leading multinationals. Building on these insights, they propose a framework of “digital global leadership.” They see this framework as an initial attempt to discuss the strategic leadership of multinationals in a digital world and elaborate some of the many opportunities for future research.
