The Fourth Industrial Revolution and corporate entrepreneurship: the role of strategic leadership

Shaker A. Zahra

Chapter 17 in Handbook of Research on Strategic Leadership in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, 2024, pp 389-406 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: The Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0 or IR4.0) promises to change the global competitive landscape, redefining organizational purpose and mission as well as where and how companies operate and compete. These changes will benefit from the proliferation of digital technologies and the digital connectivity they afford in promoting new patterns of corporate entrepreneurship (CE) that embody both commercial and social foci, institutional building and reform activities, all carried out on a global scale. These CE activities require different, and often multiple, leadership styles in order to create and capture value, while ensuring rapid and continuous organizational transformation. These changing CE patterns and corresponding leadership styles open up new and exciting avenues for future scholarship.
