Chapter 20 in Handbook of Research on Strategic Leadership in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, 2024, pp 457-474 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
There is an urgent need for top executives to make informed strategic decisions about digital technologies given the increasing role that digital technologies are playing in driving firm performance. However, an emerging issue is that top executives often lack an adequate understanding of digital technologies to address these decisions effectively. In this chapter, the authors carefully define the concept of “executive digital savviness” and develop a theoretical model that identifies its key antecedents and implications. They also share the findings from data they gathered from executives through ten interviews they conducted and 197 surveys they collected. Finally, they offer insights for executives and future research.
