Abstract:
Participatory budgeting in schools is a very recent practice in Italy. Although the first experiments in municipalities date back to 1994 and hundreds of Participatory Budgeting (PB) processes have been implemented in the last years (Stortone & Allegretti 2018), the first experience of School PB occurred only in 2017. Since then, new experiences have followed one another, demonstrating a positive trend, great resiliency, and attraction, but also many hindrances. This trend can be seen as an evolutionary tale, as many difficulties limit School PB’s full expansion and potential. Different approaches have been tried to overcome these challenges, resulting in interesting insights and promising outcomes.
