Chapter 3 in Handbook of Counterproductive Work Behavior, 2025, pp 33-50 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In this chapter, we draw from various disciplines, including communication, applied psychology, and management, to describe how the form and nature of sexual harassment is evolving with technology and the increasing reliance on computer-mediated communication. We then examine factors that may pose heightened risk for sexual harassment, including changing modalities (remote and hybrid work) and employment conditions (independent and precarious work). We end by reviewing technology-enabled reporting applications and suggest new ways to reduce sexual harassment and promote climates of respect. Our goal is to guide research and interventions acknowledging these risks and shifts in work, while also leveraging technology for combatting sexual harassment.
