Chapter 10 in Research Handbook of Innovation in the Circular Bioeconomy, 2025, pp 156-179 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The chapter discusses the use of scientific research infrastructures to stimulate the circular bioeconomy innovations in industrial companies through the specific scenario of science-industry collaboration in the agri-food sector. It presents experiences and outcomes of EIT Food InfraBooster1, which helped scientific organizations develop new services to make their publicly-owned research infrastructures accessible to private-sector agri-food companies. The study identifies the differentiated occurrence of specific types of circular product and process innovations, linking the results to the characteristics of scientific organizations, regional differences, segments of agri-food sector, and specific Sustainable Development Goals. The experiences of agri-food research infrastructure owners can serve as a blueprint for other industries and segments of the circular bioeconomy, enhancing the commercial use of technological assets controlled by scientific organizations and stimulating industrial innovations.
