Chapter 1 in Research Handbook on Global Diversity Management, 2025, pp 12-24 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The chapter examines the challenges, practices, and research pertaining to global diversity management, specifically focusing on gender, race and ethnicity within global/multinational (MNCs) organisations. As Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) scholars and practitioners, we draw from our combined experiences to address the intricacies of international diversity management, highlighting the tensions between global integration and local responsiveness. This chapter aims to answer how gender, race and ethnicity are managed in global/MNCs by examining how these dimensions are managed within a global context, with a post-pandemic lens. It also employs the framework of intersectionality to understand the combined impacts of various social identities. The chapter further addresses challenges and implications related to collecting data, inadequate ethnic representation, and intersectional experiences, and concludes by offering recommendations for both practitioners and researchers aiming to enhance global diversity management practices.
