Chapter 16 in Research Handbook on Global Diversity Management, 2025, pp 216-232 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The Diversity Practitioner (DP) role is a growing one. It takes place in a range of settings, sectors and geographies. This chapter focuses on what the role broadly might be said to entail and how it is executed with particular reference to a largely administrative working context. That is, where there is no production or delivery of essential services taking place, for example. The areas of focus are context, the role itself and its issues, including successes and challenges. It also contains some modest tips. As a reflective piece, this chapter is predominantly written from the vantage point of two people who have worked together for many years in an international organisation and have significant combined equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) full-time, in-house experience as well as external consultancy experience. It also draws on the perspectives and experiences of other full-time diversity practitioners. It does not claim to be authoritative.
