Global diversity and inclusion: the case of Australia
Dimitria G. Groutsis
Chapter 19 in Research Handbook on Global Diversity Management, 2025, pp 279-290 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This exploratory chapter focuses on diversity and inclusion within the Australian context and defends the importance of going beyond the business case instead, placing equity and solidarity, social and human rights at the centre of the agenda. This broader strategy provides the opportunity to grow the diversity agenda and in doing so extend the current ‘pick and mix’ approach to diversity and inclusion. The chapter focuses on why ethno-racial diversity has been largely neglected, and the implications of this, by presenting evidence on Australian diversity campaigns. The discussion provides both theoretical and empirical insights while presenting lessons for the future which seek to address current policy limitations.
