Chapter 22 in Research Handbook on Student Engagement in Higher Education, 2024, pp 316-330 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Université TÉLUQ is a higher education institution that offers its entire distance learning curriculum in asynchronous mode. It has become clear that this teaching method faces significant challenges, namely the dropout rate, which is considered too high, and the duration of studies, which is considered too long. To meet these challenges, several strategies have been implemented to support student engagement, perseverance and success. Some strategies aim to offer just-in-time support; others seek to provide workers with the information required to intervene when the time is right. Some promote interaction between students, while others boost motivation and, finally, some strategies aim to better support minority groups. This chapter describes Université TÉLUQ’s current and future initiatives to increase student perseverance, retention and especially engagement in their academic success.
