Chapter 7 in Research Handbook on Health Education, Health Promotion and Diversity, 2025, pp 88-99 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Public health professionals regularly engage in program evaluation. Program evaluation is necessary to continuously improve and document the effectiveness of health promotion and disease prevention programs to funders and policymakers. This chapter outlines various types of evaluation and their purpose. We then discuss several research strategies used in health program evaluation, including surveys, focus groups, and interviews. These research strategies help us gain insights from program staff and participants. Next, the chapter covers diversity-related issues and offers strategies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. A case study gives the reader an example of how the chapter's content can be applied.
