Chapter 4 in Flipping the Classroom with Experiential and Community-Engaged Learning in Business, 2025, pp 47-71 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Abstract: This chapter offers validated strategies for overcoming students’ reluctance toward the flipped classroom (FC) approach. To do so, the instructor applied flipped learning in a managerial accounting course where most students (85%) had no prior experience. The Community of Inquiry (CoI) survey was employed at the beginning and end of the semester to measure the students’ perception of the FC approach. The paired t-test proved that their neutral attitude toward the FC shifted to a preference for the traditional approach even though 78% of the students were satisfied with the FC experience in the managerial accounting course. The instructor investigated the underlying causes of this significant perception shift. In short, this chapter provides future instructors with suggestions on motivating students for the FC and implementing it efficiently in their classrooms based on the proven strategies and insights from the showcase and literature review.
