Interlocking dynamics in suprateams

Truls Erikson

Chapter 7 in Advancing Corporate Governance Research, 2026, pp 131-147 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Suprateams are the ‘upper echelons’ of new firms. In the current study, I develop the term ‘suprateam’ that runs prior to supra-new venture teams, which again runs prior to supra-top management teams. However, by highlighting new firms in their forming years, the supra-new venture team is the venture management team and the board, but I operationalize here ‘suprateam’ as the founder manager and the board. Specifically, I assess the relationship between the superstructure of the emerging new board and its overall effect on the performance of the emerging new firm, as the leadership structure of new entrepreneurial firms, and their configuration of human and social resources, are vital components in the governance architecture of such new firms.
