Learning with intention: integrating mindfulness in entrepreneurship classes

Rashimah Rajah

Chapter 31 in Annals of Entrepreneurship Education and Pedagogy - 2025, 2025, pp 389-394 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: In advancing pedagogy in entrepreneurship, the teaching innovation of integrating mindfulness in classes is introduced. This innovation aims to move students to an entrepreneurial mindset by increasing positive emotions, focus, and intention to be better equipped for problem-solving and making entrepreneurial decisions. Through a three-part teaching design consisting of (i) guided meditation, (ii) individual written reflection, and (iii) call to action, students can have access to a greater repertoire of cognitive resources to deal with challenges related to entrepreneurship. This innovation was conducted with over 300 students over seven courses at the National University of Singapore Business School, a top business school in Asia, which is ranked eighth in the world. Pre- and post-meditation results of this teaching innovation showed that students benefited significantly from in-class guided meditation. Prior rapport between students and the teacher is important in ensuring the success of this innovation.
