Crafting success: unveiling the entrepreneurship odyssey - a dynamic research roadmap board game for aspiring innovators and business leaders

Madeleine Stevens

Chapter 36 in Annals of Entrepreneurship Education and Pedagogy - 2025, 2025, pp 421-428 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter presents a board game, the Research Methods Roadmap, designed to enhance entrepreneurial pedagogy and research methods learning in business schools. Departing from predominant positivist approaches, the game aligns with the evolving trend towards qualitative methodologies in entrepreneurship research. The Research Roadmap engages students in experiential learning, reflecting real-world entrepreneurial challenges. It integrates competition, encouraging strategic decision-making, problem-solving, and collaboration among students. The game, with sustainability themes, aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Students navigate qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods roadmaps, earning ‘battery charges’ as rewards. The game fosters key entrepreneurial skills such as communication, pitch, and resource management. The game’s impact is reflected in increased module results and a 100 per cent satisfaction rate among surveyed Master’s students, emphasizing its effectiveness in promoting inclusive learning and a broader understanding of research design.
