Chapter 7 in Annals of Entrepreneurship Education and Pedagogy - 2025, 2025, pp 122-142 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Recidivism - many people who leave prison end up going back - poses a significant challenge for societies around the world. Entrepreneurship education programs have shown promise in helping prison leavers stay on track. However, it remains theoretically and empirically under-examined how and why these programs achieve positive social and economic impact. Drawing upon a case study of Project ReMAKE in the UK, this chapter explores the impact and mechanisms of re-entry EE programs in reducing recidivism through self-employment and employment. It suggests a “hub and spoke” approach may help adapt and expand these programs under resource constraints. This chapter contributes to the literature by proposing a co-creation model of re-entry EE programs. It discusses practical implications for building EE programs for disadvantaged social groups such as prison leavers.
