Abstract:
This study explores the role of family dynamics in shaping entrepreneurial learning, introducing a unique perspective that highlights the significance of family in nurturing entrepreneurial capabilities. Analyzing narratives from NPR’s “How I Built This” podcast interviews, the research uncovers eight themes that emphasize early exposure to entrepreneurship, parental influence, the importance of values and work ethic, independence, leveraging family capital, the role of family as a community of practice, the impact of family traditions, and navigating challenges with family support. These findings suggest that the entrepreneurial learning process is socially embedded and deeply intertwined with familial interactions, going beyond the traditional view of entrepreneurship as an individualistic endeavor. This research not only aims to enrich the academic discourse on entrepreneurship but also offers practical insights for educators and policymakers, highlighting the necessity of acknowledging the pivotal role of family in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
