Agricultural leadership education

Jackie Bruce and Jason Headrick

Chapter 13 in Handbook on Leadership Education and Impact, 2025, pp 171-181 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: The role that agricultural leadership plays across the world remains paramount as the global challenges we face as a human race call for agriculture and natural resources-centered problem-solving and solutions. The field rose to answer the call from rural communities to address the challenges faced and from the agricultural industry calling for more critical thinkers and empathetic and nimble problem-solvers. We know that the training and development provided by agricultural leadership educators makes an immediate impact on those who receive it, yet we acknowledge that the future of the disciplinary context is dependent on gathering longitudinal data that demonstrates the impact among its constituencies. The agricultural leadership discipline will remain vested in addressing the needs and challenges of rural life and the agricultural and natural resources industry and the preparation of those who impact it from the local level to national and global policy.
