Identifying the targets and benefits of leadership education

Krista M. Soria and Tena Spencer

Chapter 4 in Handbook on Leadership Education and Impact, 2025, pp 49-62 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter provides an overview of the benefits accrued from participation in leadership education, with a focus on outcomes related to leadership, academics and education, careers, and prosocial behaviors. We also describe how leadership education can be best positioned to drive K–12 and college students’ learning and development. We conclude with recommendations for effective leadership education programs and a call for more research on the benefits of leadership education for youth.
