Abstract:
In the summer of 2020, Pastor Mary Gean of First United Methodist Church of Clifton (FUMCC) in Clifton, Texas, announced that the church sought to restart the local Scouting Program which had gone dormant during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Scouting Committee was formed and planning began in July for re-instituting the Pack. Less than three months before the Pack’s rechartering deadline, the United Methodist denomination announced that member churches could no longer charter Scout BSA units due to the Scout BSA sexual harassment lawsuit. The Scouting Committee faced the challenge of finding a new chartering organization to replace the church. Subsequently, the Cubmaster, who had led the Pack before Covid, withdrew, requiring the Committee to find new leadership and address the issue of leadership succession. Ultimately, parents of the children in the program stepped up to provide the necessary leadership to restart the program and put it on a stable foundation going forward.
