Chapter Chapter 16 in Case Studies on Nonprofit Resilience Management, 2025, pp 140-145 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The YMCA (also known as the “Y”) of Metro Atlanta experienced a severe loss of earned revenue during the 2020-2021 pandemic and experienced a potential major budget deficit. It responded by reorienting its programming from traditional fitness programs to community-focused initiatives intended to meet the critical needs of local residents resulting from the pandemic. The Y was able to secure significant governmental and philanthropic support to achieve this reorientation, but it also required substantial reductions in staff and other expenses. Going forward, the Y’s leadership believes it has been able to transform the Y into an institution better aligned to address community needs.
