Charismatic leadership: A neuroscientific perspective

Abstract: Charismatic leadership is widely held to be an effective style of leading, involving communicating a future vision and goals, inspiring followers and gaining their commitment. There have been divergent approaches when it comes to defining charismatic leadership, whether existing in its own right, or as a subset of transformational leadership. Definitions aside, neuroscientific research on charismatic (and related) leadership, to date, mostly focuses on differences in brain region activation and neural patterns linked with such leadership. Additionally, there has been associated research on eye-tracking, revealing important insights into the potential role of eye-gazing as a behaviour of charismatic leadership.
