Emotional intelligence and business leadership

Makhan Singh and Edmund Chadwick

Chapter 26 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Neuroscience and Management, 2026, pp 91-92 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: As the world of business forges ahead in the twenty-first century with technological and digital advancement, emotional intelligence, often referred to as ‘soft skills’, is becoming ever more important, especially as stress levels increase with mental health and emotional resilience deteriorating amongst workforces. By 2065, the global population is anticipated to exceed 10 billion, nearly every person on the planet will be connected to the internet, and energy, food, and water demand will be a serious challenge. As stress levels rise, the need for innovative business leadership with high emotional intelligence is therefore of critical importance.
