Chapter 34 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Neuroscience and Management, 2026, pp 119-123 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Facial thermal imaging (FTI) is a non-invasive biometric technique that uses facial temperature changes to predict emotional and psychophysiological states. Rooted in infrared thermography, FTI offers a dependable and cost-effective way of visualising heat distribution across key facial regions of interest (ROIs). FTI provides unique insights into emotional responses by detecting precise thermal fluctuations that are impacted by autonomic nervous system activity. Its integration with other neuromarketing tools such as EEG and eye-tracking improves the accuracy of emotional and user experience research, expanding its usage in marketing, health, and human–computer interface studies.
