Abstract:
Galvanic skin response (GSR) measures changes in the skin's electrical conductance linked to emotional arousal and attention, reflecting sympathetic nervous system activity. Closely related to electrodermal activity (EDA), GSR captures both tonic (baseline) and phasic (stimulus-related) responses, providing insights into unconscious emotional processes. Widely applied in neuromarketing, psychology, and human–computer interaction, GSR enables real-time, objective assessment of emotional engagement beyond self-report limitations. Despite its advantages, GSR faces challenges, such as the inability to measure emotional valence and temporal latency in stimulus–response detection, which can be mitigated through careful experimental design and complementary biometric methods.
