Neurodiversity in the workplace

Panagiotis Trivellas, Dimitrios P. Reklitis and Irene Harilogi

Chapter 50 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Neuroscience and Management, 2026, pp 177-180 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Neurodiversity in the workplace is examined in the frame of the social model of disability, the neurodiversity paradigm, and the neurodiversity movement, which promotes the acceptance, adaptation, and integration of neurodiverse persons into all spheres of society. However, neurodiverse individuals still encounter substantial obstacles in employment and social integration, despite increasing awareness and activism. The recently growing awareness of neurodiversity has guided the adoption of targeted inclusion programmes of firms in several sectors, such as technology and IT services, manufacturing, engineering, warehousing, and education. Ensuring diversity, equality, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in business policies and HR procedures is essential for establishing an inclusive work environment.
