Chapter 51 in Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Neuroscience and Management, 2026, pp 181-183 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Neuro-economics bridges neuroscience, psychology, and economics to investigate how the brain supports choices involving value, risk, and social interaction. Since its emergence in the early 2000s, this field has revealed how neural processes shape behaviour in both individual and organisational settings. It clarifies how emotion, cognition, and context interact in decision-making and leadership, offering biological perspectives, for example, on motivation and ethics. Although concerns remain about reductionism and the misuse of neural data, future work promises closer integration with artificial intelligence and greater attention to cultural and ethical dimensions.
