Organisational citizenship behaviour and neuroscience

Abstract: Organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB) is a prosocial workplace behaviour that contributes to the creation of a productive work environment. It has significant workplace benefits and can be the source of competitive advantage. Studies using non-invasive techniques such as electroencephalograms (EEGs) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) have primarily focused on how OCB could be induced and accentuated (e.g. through better sleep, emotion processing, mentalising). The chapter reviews these studies and offers directions for future research on differences in electric voltage and brain region activation, the role of physiological needs, and the use of neuroimaging and hormonal analysis.
