Chapter 26 in How to Scale Engagement and Impact in Universities, 2025, pp 285-297 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Abstract: There are many guidelines, documents and websites telling us how to engage with policymakers to inform and influence policy. There is also an abundance of material to educate those interested in how policy works, who is who and what issues are on their current agenda. This chapter is not a regurgitation of the information that is already available; rather it is a step-by-step guide as to how one can inform and influence policy through their research and make an impact. The case study is one of women's enterprise policy in Scotland and working with the Scottish Government to understand the landscape of women's entrepreneurship in Scotland, the delivery of women's enterprise policy and exploring how to address the challenges they are facing with realistic solutions that were heeded by the Scottish Government.
