Abstract:
This chapter synthesizes the main themes of the book Rethinking Media Economics and discusses the role of theories and research methods in this rethinking process. It emphasizes the importance of rethinking to foster innovative solutions and prevent stagnant thinking. The chapter highlights the rapid changes in the media industry due to technology, regulation, globalization, and consumer preferences, and the need for better collaboration between public and private sectors. It concludes with propositions on the state of knowledge in media economics and suggests future research directions to broaden the impact of media economics research.
