Abstract: This chapter introduces A Research Agenda for Artificial Intelligence and Academic Integrity by framing the intersection of academic integrity and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) through a postplagiarism lens. Traditional definitions of plagiarism are insufficient in an era when human and machine contributions are entangled, requiring reimagined approaches grounded in human agency, transparency, and ethical collaboration. The volume is organized around five themes: the transformative impact of GenAI on integrity; the need for adaptable ethical frameworks; education and AI literacy; equity, bias, and inclusivity; and critiques of detection tools in favor of preventive pedagogical strategies. The chapter also outlines urgent and emerging research priorities, from assessing hybrid human–AI learning to addressing neurotechnologies that may redefine authorship and cognition. By situating these challenges within postplagiarism, the introduction charts a research agenda that emphasizes complexity, inclusivity, and ethical responsibility in the age of AI.
