Effects of university faculty's perceptions of academic integrity on their acceptance of GenAI technology

Abstract: This chapter examines university faculty's intention to teach with GenAI in relation to their perceptions of its usefulness, ease of use, and academic integrity. Survey data collected from 185 university faculty members at a large Canadian university reveal that those with more positive academic integrity perceptions showed higher overall acceptance rates compared to those with more negative views. Multiple regression analysis indicates perceived usefulness and academic integrity perceptions were significant predictors of behavioral intention to use GenAI for teaching, with academic integrity perceptions moderating relationships between perceived usefulness and behavioral intention to teach with GenAI. Implications are discussed, detailing how targeted professional development (PD) and guidelines addressing perceptions of GenAI's usefulness and impact on academic integrity are necessary to facilitate acceptance and responsible adoption of GenAI in academia. The chapter offers practical guidance outlining a future research agenda to explore how teacher perceptions of GenAI can inform PD in higher education.
