Abstract: This chapter examines the challenges and possibilities of teaching sociology in Brazil in contexts marked by political polarization and social tension. It traces the historical trajectory of sociology in Brazilian education, highlighting teacher training, curriculum reforms, and the discipline's shifting status within secondary education. Particular attention is given to the obstacles educators face when addressing issues of gender, sexuality, race, and social inequality amid the rise of conservative movements such as Escola sem Partido and the broader impact of the Bolsonaro administration (2019–2022). Drawing on empirical research and teaching experience, the chapter discusses pedagogical, legal, and collective strategies developed to confront censorship and resistance, including the role of professional associations and teaching collectives. Finally, it presents innovative teaching methodologies and resources, along with international examples, emphasizing sociology's central role in fostering dialogue, critical thinking, and democratic education.
