Abstract: Intellectual function refers to intelligence which means general mental ability. In general mental ability we do include following determinants: opinion, inference, reasoning, planning, problem solving, an abstract opinion, understanding complex ideas, learning speed, learning through experience (AAIDD, 2010). Significant limitations of intellectual functioning means to have IQ that is two standard deviations bellow the mean intelligence (lower then 70). In accordance to ICD-10 - International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 10th Revision (WHO, 2016) it could be distinguished four categories of persons with intellectual disabilities: people with mild intellectual disabilities, IQ = 50-70, developmental age of the child is from 7 to 12 years; moderate intellectual difficulties, IQ = 35-49, developmental age child is from 4 up to 7 years; severe intellectual difficulties, IQ = 20-34, developmental age of child from 2 up to 4 years; profound or multiple intellectual disabilities IQ below 20, developmental age under 2 years. The levels will be describing under the chapter separately for every level of ID and with specificities of functioning in everyday activities.
