‘Is This About Me?’ — The Critical Issue of Relevance
Simon Anholt
Chapter Chapter 11 in Places, 2010, pp 144-156 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract Attempting to influence the image of a place is partly a matter of picking and planning one’s battles very carefully. Pitting the puny resources that governments can generally bring to bear against immovable objects (such as trying to contradict or erase longstanding negative perceptions that are deeply rooted in the cultures of other countries) is foolish and can be counterproductive.
