Chapter 8 in Employee Relations in Foreign-Owned Subsidiaries, 2007, pp 112-154 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter presents the performance associations connected with the observed ER patterns in German subsidiaries that were discussed in the preceding chapter. It was noted that these patterns emerge from the interplay between home-country, host-country and dominance effects. The ER-subsidiary performance links are analysed in a three-stage process. In the first step, the performance associations of individual ER practices and institutional arrangements are investigated. This is followed by an evaluation of the relationship between the ER policy dimensions and performance. Finally, a more detailed analysis between subsidiary performance and the various ER approaches is conducted. The results of the regression estimates are presented in Tables 8.1 to 8.5. The results, presented in summary form, show the associations between ER practices, dimensions and approaches and the range of performance outcomes after allowing for the influence of the control variables. The full regression models are shown in Appendix Tables A.4 to A.8. For ease of presentation, the summary tables report only the signs of the coefficients and the significance levels. The value of the coefficients and the z-statistics are reported in Appendix Tables A.4 to A.8.
