Abstract: Abstract Demographics and Socioeconomics. Nebraska, located in the West North Central region of the United States, has a population of 1.7 million people and was the thirteenth least populous state in 2005. The state’s population decreased by 4,287 people from 2000 to 2005, but is projected to grow to 1.8 million by 2025. This 0.3 percent projected annual growth rate is below the national average of 1.0 percent. In 2005 Nebraska had a per capita personal income of $32,988, which was $1,507 below the national average. The state’s per capita income grew at an average annual rate of 3.6 percent from 2000 to 2005, compared to 2.9 percent nationally.
