The Development and Economic Impact of the Wine Industry in Ontario, Canada

Linda Bramble, Carman Cullen, Joseph Kushner and Gary Pickering

Chapter Chapter 4 in Wine, Society, and Globalization, 2007, pp 63-86 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract The Ontario wine region, like those of most other wine regions in North America, has experienced a sea change in terms of the quality, size, and economic impact of its wine industry. For most of the twentieth century, forces such as war, Prohibition, and consumer antagonism towards beverage alcohol militated against its growth, but in recent decades Ontario has experienced a wider and more revolutionary change than any other wine region in the North American jurisdiction.
