A chapter in Regional China, 2013, pp 329-339 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract Yunnan is a province of the PRC, located in the far southwest of the country, with the Tropic of Cancer running through its southern part. The north of the province forms part of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The province borders Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guizhou Province to the east, Sichuan Province to the north and Tibet Autonomous Region to the northwest. It shares 4,060 km of land borders with Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar, and it is connected to Thailand and Cambodia via waterways. Yunnan has two abbreviated names: “Dian” and “Yun”.
