On Partners and Partnership
Rick Webb
Chapter 15 in Agency, 2015, pp 157-160 from Palgrave Macmillan
Abstract:
Abstract The act of choosing a partner is a peculiar ritual. Basically, you’re choosing someone with whom you will spend as much time as you would your spouse, and often you’re doing it on little information. You may have just met them. You may have only ever hung out with them in social situations, and never seen them under pressure. Yet you throw our lot in with them, with little more than a hope and a prayer, and try and build something lasting and beautiful with someone that, very often, whom you barely know. You consciously give up some measure of control to this person, making yourself less omnipotent in the process.
